Engineers and manufacturers are constantly in a battle of improving the quality of products without significantly increasing costs. Cost is the driving element in nearly every engineering project, the way to cut it down is to decrease the quality of the materials and parts. However, there are some ways to bring the quality of the material and parts up while keeping costs the same.
The cost of quality in manufacturing is rising. Even high-skilled manual inspections can be slow, ineffective, costly and potentially dangerous. More than half of the checks require a visual confirmation by someone. Even when manufacturers use cameras, they are only capturing a fraction of the potential data.
